Does the library offer community membership cards?

Virginia Tech and VCOM students, faculty, and staff use their Hokie Passports as their library cards. Virginia residents and Virginia college students can get a borrowers card to check out our material, including books, DVDs, CDs, and bound journals.
When ever you want to check items out of the library, bring those items to the Services Desk and give the staff your library card.
At Newman Library, most of the books are in the stacks on the 3rd or 5th floor, or located in the Popular Reading Collection area, after the DVD section, on the 2nd floor of Newman Library. Just bring the book or item to the Services Desk, near the Main Entrance, on the 2nd floor with your Community Borrowers Card, or to the self-checkout stations right next to the Services Desk. If the books or item do not check out properly, please bring them to the Services Desk, and our staff can help you. You can also do that process at any of our branch libraries during daytime hours.
Note: Please remember to unlock your DVDs or CDs at the unlocking station next to the Newman Services Desk before you leave.
Minors can get a card, but they need to have their parent or guardian present when getting the card. Minors also need to present a valid photo ID. Please be aware that minor accounts are subject to the same fines and restrictions as all other library accounts.
Generally, Virginia patron accounts are removed after 6 months of inactivity.
