Anyone with a Virginia photo ID can receive a Community borrower's card from the User Services Desk in Newman Library, or any of our branch libraries. The User Services Desk in Newman Library is located on the second floor. You'll need to present that ID in person. You can then check out materials (books, DVDs, and more) with the borrowing privileges available to Virginia residents, which are similar to those of undergraduates. For further information, please check our Borrowing page, and the following FAQ on how to get a library card.
Only current faculty, staff, and students are eligible to use our Interlibrary Loan services and have off campus access to our electronic resources. Most databases, ejournals, and ebooks can be accessed by anyone while in the library using the public computers located in any of our branch libraries. (Note: Some restrictions apply).
The Virginia Tech Libraries provide a small selection of databases licensed specifically for Virginia Tech alumni. See the list of databases under "Licensed for alumni use". For more details, visit the Alumni Accessible Databases: Databases for Alumni page.
