Q. Does the library have foreign language audio materials?

We have Rosetta Stone available online to all current employees and students at Virginia Tech. Rosetta Stone is the premier software for computer-based language learning. Users may now access Rosetta Stone through a course shell in Canvas with the following URL: https://canvas.vt.edu/enroll/KN77HJ. Visit the Rosetta Stone Libguide for more information.

The library also has some foreign language CDs listed in library homepage - Discovery Search and in our library catalog page. To browse, you can either:

1) Go to the library homepage - Discovery Search, and type and search for PIMSLEUR. Change the search field from "Everything" to "Library Catalog". Then under "Format", select "Audio". See example results link.

Or

2) Go to our catalog page, use Advanced Search, type and search for PIMSLEUR, specifying the "Material type" as "Sound recordings". See example results link.

Finally, to view the item catalog page, click on the title or location link for items listed as AUDIO CD, or with "Compact Disc" Call numbers and "Available at..." (such as Newman Library). You may "Virtual Browse" the shelf for similar item types further near the bottom of the item page, or you may Sign In to make requests (i.e., place a hold) on the item.

Languages represented are Eqyptian Arabic, Spanish, Hindi, Italian, German, French, Korean, Japanese, Chinese Mandarin, Vietnamese, Portuguese,and Russian. These are incredible sets, complete with guide books to complement 3 learning levels.

The library has a few foreign language materials in the collection. Run a Subject search using the language name followed by the word language; e.g., Italian language or Korean language or Russian language or Japanese language. Then select the "ADVANCED SEARCH" option to include search for terms such as:
- "Self-instruction"
- "Sound recordings" OR "Sound recordings for English speakers"
- "Study and teaching"
