O'Reilly ebooks accessed through Discovery Search, the library homepage, or directly via O'Reilly for Higher Education require you to enter your VT email address for access.
When you first land on an ebook page or the O'Reilly homepage, you’ll be asked to select your institution. Choose “Institution Not Listed?” and enter your @vt.edu email address. This should grant you browser access to the ebook.
You’ll receive an email with a link to create a profile and set a password. You’ll use this password to log in on future visits. Once logged in, you can annotate ebooks and create reading lists.
Important: Do not reuse your VT login password for your O'Reilly account.
While you cannot download ebooks through your browser, you can use the O'Reilly mobile app with your profile to read ebooks offline on your mobile device.
If you create an O'Reilly account using your @vt.edu email without following the steps above, it will be treated as an individual account with a free trial that later requires payment. Similarly, if you’ve already used your @vt.edu email for a free trial, you won’t be able to access content through Virginia Tech’s institutional subscription.
In either case, contact support@oreilly.com and ask them to associate your existing account with Virginia Tech’s institutional subscription.
