O'Reilly ebooks you find in Discovery Search, by searching from the library homepage, or directly on O'Reilly for Higher Education require you to enter your VT email address for access.

When you first land on an ebook's page or the O'Reilly homepage, you'll be asked what institution you are with. Choose "Institution Not Listed?" then enter your @vt.edu email address. Simply entering your address should enable you to read the ebook in your browser.

The system will email you a link to create a profile on O'Reilly and create a password* for that profile. You'll use the password you created to log in the next time you use the site. Once logged into your profile, you can annotate ebooks and make lists of ebooks. *Note: Do not use the same password as your VT login.

You cannot download these ebooks through your browser, but you can use O'Reilly's mobile app (along with the profile you created above) to read ebooks offline on your mobile device.

If you create an account with O'Reilly using your vt.edu email address without following the process described above, it will be an individual account that will have a free trial period that will subsequently require payment for continued access. Similarly, if you have already used your vt.edu email address for a free trial with O'Reilly you won't be able to access content on the platform through Virginia Tech's institutional subscription. In either case, the fix is to contact O'Reilly at support@oreilly.com to have them associate your existing account with Virginia Tech's subscription.
