No, creating an account with OCLC (WorldCat) is completely optional; you do not need to sign in or create an OCLC (WorldCat) account in order to use WorldCat Discovery Search. When you are viewing the results screen, you may notice a button at the top right corner of the page that says "Sign in".

By clicking on this button, you may choose to create an optional account with OCLC (WorldCat), if you do not have one already. In order to utilize certain features available with WorldCat Discovery, you will need to create an account. Please note: your OCLC (WorldCat) account is not connected in any way to your VT PID/password account.

Creating an OCLC (WorldCat) account allows you to save searches and save items to a personal list. Search results will include added icons for saving items to lists. Note that when you save an item using the star icon on the upper right of the item (see example graphics below), the item is saved to a temporary list that you then must transfer to a personal list to save for another time.
