First, we do not recommend accessing library resources through the VPN.  Simply start on the library's website, search in the main search box, use the link to Discovery Search's advance search screen, use the link to browse or search our databasesebooks, or journals, or configure Google Scholar to use our links to resources. Once you encounter a resource that requires authentication, you will be automatically prompted to sign in and authenticate yourself as affiliated with Virginia Tech via 2-factor authentication. Accessing through the VPN will significantly slow your connection.

The default setting of the VT VPN is to only route your network traffic through the VPN for on-campus servers, but our subscription resources are located off campus. You'll need to switch the VPN settings to route All Traffic Over SSL VPN so these off-campus resources will see you as being on the campus network.
