Who can see my profile page?

Answer

First, it’s important to understand the difference between Elements and Virginia Tech Experts. Elements is internal, and only available through login to Virginia Tech personnel. Virginia Tech Experts is the public site that shares some (not all) data from Elements.  It is available for anyone to access. Your data from Elements will only display in Experts publicly if you select to share.

Anyone with an account in the Elements system can see your internal Elements profile page. Currently this includes all instructional and research faculty and some administrative and professional faculty at Virginia Tech, as well as extension agents at Virginia Tech and Virginia State University.

If you make your profile public on Virginia Tech Experts (by toggling the profile from ‘internal’ to ‘public’), then data from Elements will display on the public-facing profile system, Virginia Tech Experts, which will be visible to anyone with an Internet connection. For more information on how to control access to your data, see the Elements Privacy Statement (VT login required). For more information about what information displays on Virginia Tech Experts, see the Experts page.
